ASIMO Honda’s Most Advanced Humanoid Robot

The robotic technology at Honda is some of the most advanced in the world. The face of Honda’s robotics program is the humanoid robot you see here, ASIMO.  ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. Honda has recently applied this robot technology to improve anti-skid systems and ensure more responsive handling in Honda and Acura vehicles. Stability systems work by comparing what the driver intends, based largely on the steering wheel position, with what the car is actually doing. Through research Honda has developed a robotics-derived system that speeds up the ability of the software to judge what the driver intends, making the whole anti-skid system work faster. This advanced technology along with the superfast balancing system used by ASIMO to help him walk and run, has been applied to the stability system in the new 2013 Acura ILX.

As I read an article about the most recent ASIMO model, and visited the ASIMO Honda website, I was blown away. I highly recommend taking a look at the website, which details the history of the robotics program at Honda and detailed descriptions of ASIMO’s mobility and technological capabilities. It is amazing how far robot technology has come and the possibilities for the future are endless! When you stop and think of all the capabilities just available on your own Smartphone, Ipad or the voice recognition system in your car, it is impressive. To then imagine all these capabilities wrapped up into a robot with “human” like mobility, it is truly incredible! Having a robot helping out around the house or in the work place, seems like something right out of the Jetson’s, something that could only be possible in a movie or TV show. After watching the videos and visiting the website, you will learn just how close Honda is getting to making Humanoid Robots a reality in everyday life.
